Digital legal service takes off in Peru following the existence of 28 LegalTech

Legal services in Peru have taken a turn in recent years due to the increase in technology. In Peru there are already 28 LegalTech providers, a higher number than the registered in Ecuador (15) and Argentina (20), but still far below Brazil (61), Colombia (53) and Chile (36), according to the LegalTech Guide in Latin America 2022, prepared by Lawgic TEC.

The use of technology allows these firms to improve the provision of legal services, achieving a reduction in time, service costs and greater efficiency, among other points.

The LegalTech sector involves: analysis and review of contracts, compliance management, B2B, B2C, digital evidence, training, office management, document management and automation, jurimetrics, legal marketplace and online legal services.

According to the study, the main LegalTech companies in Peru are dedicated to the provision of online legal services and digital evidence, which together represent half of the total number of providers identified.

“LegalTech should not only be focused on corporations”

Murillo explains that the LegalTech market is recent in this country, but that little by little it has begun to have a more notorious participation at the Latin American level. “Technology in legal services favours users to a great extent, mainly in the speed of response time for certain procedures,” he adds.

From his point of view, he affirms that “we can go from one-day responses to two or three minutes, because the answer is at hand. Efficiency in response time can be reduced to a tenth of the time it takes to respond when you do not have an automator or information processors”.

He also explains that there is no point in automating these processes in the private sector when the response time remains the same in the public sector. “So, LegalTech should not only be focused on companies, but the gap should be much shorter in the public sector, because it is where there are more processes, they have more information, they have more legal matters such as resolutions, judgments, authorizations or validations,” says Murillo.
